Berkley Skatepark

Cruised up to SF last weekend to meet up with some friends and was able to sneak away for about an hour to roll around the berkley skatepark. I was pretty pumped when i got there because I hadn't been to this type of park in a really long time. Everything is so plaza'd out in socal. The park was pretty enjoyable overall and I feel like I'd be down to get down there quite frequently if I lived in the general area. The concrete was rough (normal skatepark status) so once your skin touches it, it leaves your body and stay there forever. Overall I would rate this park as a good time.

this view pretty much shows the park. there is a bowl on the back end, but who cares about that right?

great nipple for speed pumps

perfect hips. that bank i was heading toward was pretty perfect too

what makes a skatepark complete? an orange cone to launch over. (probably my favorite part)
vertical pic? come on man!
adios,

SOLVANG

My sincerest apologies. This post is long overdue.

passed through the quaint and delightful little town of Solvang, CA last July (if you haven't been you should check it out, its kind of a trip. like you left the country and are in switzerland. not really but kinda) Anyway, Solvang has a rad little park in a super dope location. (see below) This park had a totally wacky layout and i could see some of you jabronies getting real creative and awesome here. (maybe we should trip up there?!) It had a kind of terraced street section that was kind of short and fast, and a pretty different bowl section that even i was able to enjoy briefly. The best thing about the park though was the location. It was down in this little gully, covered by trees and next to a river. a perfect spot for a picnic and a kickflip. A+ for this park because why not?

entrance gates to the park
overview. street on the left, bowl on the right (as it should always be)
rolling in on that big bump on the far right was maybe the funnest thing there
another pano shot. thanks to my personal photographer

who doesn't want to spend a buttload of time here?

until next time dear friends,

Alameda Skatepark - Alameda, CA - March 2015

As the sun began it's descent on the docks, we couldn't help but attempt to regain tricks from a time forgotten by some, but relished by others. Let me take a step backwards and explain who I meant by the collective 'we'. The 'we' I referred to was regarding locals of the Alameda skatepark. They were hucking fatties to flatties, flyouts, and other things youngsters do when flinging meat is involved.

The immediate and personal 'we' (Neal and myself) were doing nothing of the sort. However, we did enjoy a sunset and the feeling of what it might be like to travel back in time to when we would consider tossing our carcasses in an Xtreme way.

Langham Hotel - Guangzhou, China

Hello again, hello.

Donie tree, native to the side of the globe.

This was a very mediocre donut,
eaten in a fancy hotel in China.

The view from the hotel window mid-donut shows just how much of a façade the hotel was.

This unnecessarily long video stands as a metaphor for:
'You can put lipstick on a pig'... (the Power of Marketing)
The deep connection, commitment, love and respect for the donie.

New Cherry Park!

New Cherry Park!!!!!!! Whoa! Pretty rad! Here's some pics from this morning's session. I didn't take many photos of us landing stuff, so here's a great photo blog of our misses :) Please note the sarcasm...

Jordan, rolling up intensely, but might not have made it
Whoops, almost had it

Bryan, not sure if he made this one or not

Looks pretty cool, but guess what, don't think he landed it

Again, kinda cool, but don't think he reeled that skateboard forwards enough to get it back under him

Oh cool, Neal made it on top of this thing.

John came up. He landed stuff I think

Zoomed out board slide. I think this was a make actually.

Paul Kwon! I think he put this manual down before rolling off the end. No need to hold it longer than you want to, ya know?!

Maybeeeeeeeeeee…. Nope

Nope

Jordan, ditching his real board, and smithing with his invisible board instead. It probably feels cooler  anyways

Might have rolled away from this, I can't remember

Blurry Bryan, comin at me

Not even sure where his board disappeared to in this photo. He might not have even used it on this attempt.

Hmm, nope

The one awesome kick flip, and I cut his head off. That's what he gets for landing it.

Closer!

Fast ollie going the opposite way. Yes, he landed it!

Bry Bry, nope

Portland, ME skatepark

On our way out of Portland, we had some beers and headed to the skatepark to check it out. Apparently this is a newer park, and it was pretty rad. The park had a decent bowl, hips, euro gap, faux-brick bank, and some unique stuff so it was pretty rad! None of the locals seemed to want to talk to me, so that's my only negative on this one.

Pretty good scenery to roll up to
"Portland Skatepark"
Mini bowl which was actually useful to pump into and out of for some speed for a few things

Fun-size quarter pipe that was good for speed. I kinda liked that it didn't have a deck cuz no one could linger on it then.
One of the local shredders
Another view. For some reason, this kid actually had those Adidas Boost shoes
Pretty fun bowl. The deep end wasn't too tall, but went almost to vert so it was pretty fun and fast

Congdon's Doughnuts

On my drive up from Kev's to Portland, Maine, I drove along the coast a bit and happened to come across this awesome, old-style doughnut spot. Congdon's Doughnuts, Family Restaurant and Bakery!
It was packed!
Since '55!
Good ol' fashioned style. No modern Ikea shit in sight!

And some huge options!

Here's one shelf of options
And the next

And the third! so many options. I panicked when she called on me

And went with apple-filled

Phew, wonderful choice. This is place was great!

Oh yea, I was driving a Fiat!

If you happen to be in Maine, first off, you're hyped, cuz you're in Maine, and second, if you can swing by Congdon's, you will not be disappointed!
