She went on thursday last week and got to the shop (in fountain valley) around 9:30 am. They had already sold out of the flagship pop tart beasties, so she, disappointedly, picked up a few others, because, hey, donuts are donuts. We tried a strawberries and cream, a samoa donut and a vegan banana caramel delight. the samoa was my favorite as it tasted very similar to its delicious girl scout cookie cousin.
strawberries and cream & nutella donuts. i believe the bright pink one with the sprinkles is based off of the ever famous "simpson's" donut. |
plenty of options. all are much larger than your average doughnie. thats a s'mores monster in the bottom left |
amanda went back on monday this week after having called in a reservation for 2 of the big guys (yes, they take reservations) and surprised me with them on monday night. just to clarify how pop tartie this donut is, it is shaped like a pop tart, has one whole pop tart along with strawberry jam on the inside, and pop tart crumbles on top of the frosting. I didn't know pop tarts were so desired that one would need/want to make a tributary donut on this level, but i'm not mad that someone did. we split each one and they lasted throughout the week, and they were quite delicious. super heavy and filling and i did fill slightly sick after eating my first half. it was a pretty intense consumption session for sure. I definitely recommend this place for those who like things that are done just because they can be done, or if you happen to be in the area and want a hefty doughnie.
this photo doesn't show it (my bad) but these are about 2.5-3 inches thick. its like they took two maples bars side by side and put two more on top. |
I'm honored that I had the opportunity to enjoy such an unnecessary donut treat, but in the end, its no broadway donuts.
several pounds heavier,
Alf
**disclaimer. despite how it may sound i am not a pop tart lover. I enjoy a good pop tart occasionally, but was more interested in this donut because i had a hard time believing something this whack really existed. i'm hyped that it does.
